The security authorities in the Eastern Province continue to secure pre-determined exit points in Al-Awamiya to allow people trying to leave the town. Over the last two days, the checkpoints have been witnessing a heavy rush of families leaving the town and headed to the Qatif governorate, which provided them with adequate housing and aid in line with the directives of the Eastern Province Governor. More than 40 families have benefited from the shelter. The Qatif Province had earlier called on all affected families to approach the concerned authorities to secure housing. Various charity societies in Qatif have offered help to the needy families and have asked them to visit them for assistance. Meanwhile, Qatif Police Chief Brig. Dhafer Al-Shehri met with a delegation from Al-Qadeeh town in Qatif province. They confirmed their full support to the security men against the terrorist cells in Qatif and their attempts to sabotage the Kingdom's security. The delegation also touched on some of their demands, the most important being opening of the King Faisal Road to traffic to enable movement of families and people to their work places. Al-Awamiya has become a hideout for militants who have regularly attacked security forces in the Eastern Province. They are attempting to hinder redevelopment projects in the town, and shield the abandoned houses from where they launch terrorist activities.
