All seven men in custody for attacking a policeman along the Jeddah Corniche last month will appear before a criminal court in the next few days, Al-Riyadh Arabic paper reported. Al-Riyadh quoted an unidentified source as saying that the court, after examining the case, is currently preparing a list of charges against the defendants. The attackers on quad bikes had deliberately hit the policeman when he tried to stop them from disrupting public order and endangering people's safety. They have been identified as Majid Alrushaidi, an 18-year-old Saudi, Hussain Abdulkareem, Chadian, Haroon Kapoor, Nigerian, and Yaqoub Abdulfatah, Yemeni. Three others remain unidentified. The Prosecutor General has enough evidence to convict them, the source said. The main accused, Majid Alrushaidi, along with two other defendants, have admitted that they had deliberately plowed into the policeman and had attacked a security guard who tried to intervene. Makkah Police Spokesman Col. Atti Al-Qurashi had said at that time the security authorities in Jeddah were on duty at the corniche when the incident happened. He asserted that no leniency would be shown to anyone disrupting public peace and security.
