A government committee has admitted that it has failed to stop plying of quad bikes and paid horse-riding near the Jeddah Corniche. The horses and quad bikes have been spoiling the enjoyment and threatening the safety of other visitors. It has now recommended that the government committee be disbanded and security agencies take over this task. The committee consists of representatives from the Jeddah Mayoralty, Police, Passports Department and Mujahideen Patrols. The body's campaign directors unanimously agreed that the committee had failed to achieve its goals and that it had disrupted the work of the other security agencies. They recommended that police patrol vehicles should be positioned in areas where these quad bikes and horses are likely to be operational. Field campaigns should be intensified in nearby parks to ensure the safety of citizens and residents; checkpoints should be set up to prevent the entry of horses and bikes; and places where bikes and horses are kept should be raided. An informed source at the Passports Department told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the campaign was officially canceled by the Jeddah Governor because the committee was only able to confiscate a small number of horses and bikes, performed poorly, and encountered resistance from African gangs who owned horses and bikes. The source said that violators even fired weapons at committee members. Instructions were given to the committee to stop chasing the gangs, out of concern for the safety of the general public, the source added.
