Riyadh Police have arrested three men for attempted thefts of ATMs at various locations in the capital. A Riyadh police spokesman said the security authorities had received several complaints within a short span of 72 hours about attempts to break into five ATMs belonging to different local banks in the eastern, central and southern parts of the city. The spokesman said the perpetrators blackened out the surveillance cameras and succeeded in breaking into one of the ATMs, but failed to get hold of any cash. Col. Fawaz Al-Mayman said in view of the nature of the crime and the audacity of the criminals, the security agencies prepared a plan to quickly nab the culprits. Security patrols detained one suspect, a Sudanese national in his 30s, who was wearing a mask and rubber gloves and was carrying a hammer and steel wire used as tools to snatch ATMs. His two accomplices, who were waiting for him in a vehicle without plates, sped away. Extensive search efforts across several neighborhoods led to the arrest of the two criminals, both Yemeni nationals in their 30s, Col. Al-Mayman said. The three suspects confessed to their crime. They were referred to the prosecutors for further investigation.
