RIYADH — The police is to change the color scheme of its vehicles to white and black, Al-Watan Arabic daily reported on Monday.
“We are just awaiting the final approval of the authority's general director. The new color scheme will empower the police's identity in the Kingdom as it did in many other countries using the same color scheme such as the United States, Canada, and Japan,” said Riyadh Police spokesman Col. Fawaz Al-Mayman.
Police cars have gone through four revamps before.
This new color scheme would add “prestige and confidence” to the police force and the security authorities in the Kingdom, Al-Mayman said.
Optician experts are believed to favor the white and black color scheme on police cars so they would stand out in the streets.
“Developed countries such as the United States have gone through an array of different color schemes since 1950.
“Despite their various attempts, the black and white color scheme proved to be the most official, suitable and effective in crime control,” said one optician.
Researchers added black and white has become the symbol for crime fighters. The connotations of the color scheme is said to deter criminals and boosts police officers' confidence.
