The Riyadh police have busted a five-member gang of pickpockets and robbers in the center of the capital. Riyadh Region Police spokesman Col. Fawaz Al-Mayman said that patrol teams had been looking for a group of people seen in video clips stealing from parked cars. Col. Al-Mayman said despite lack of clues, the police were able to identify the place in the film as downtown Al-Merqab. Based on the basic information they had, the police tracked down five men in their 30s and 40s, who claimed to be Yemenis. The suspects confessed to their crimes which included pickpocketing, robbing passersby, and shop lifting. A large number of wallets and mobile phones were found on them. The suspects also identified their collaborators, two Bangladeshis in their 40s, who used to buy stolen mobile phones from the gang at cheap prices. Investigations are ongoing.
