Representatives of the countries of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden began here today a regional meeting on the current status of the endangered cartilaginous fish (Chondrichthyes) in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The meeting will suggest possible ways to protect these species from overfishing and illegal fishing in the region. The meeting, which will last for two days, gathered experts from Jordan, Djibouti, Egypt, Sudan, Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Cartilaginous fish (Chondrichthyes) includes sharks and other species.
