Residents who had been displaced by a wildfire in Colorado are returning home as crews have nearly surrounded the blaze that devastated roughly 16 square kilometers and affected more than 24 homes. Spokeswoman for the Jefferson County sheriff Jacki Kelley said about 100 residents began returning Monday, a week after the fire started. Kelley said authorities made the decision because of the containment level, which is the number of ground crews and a weather forecast of rain or snow. About 500 firefighters are currently at the fire. The fire forced the evacuation of 900 homes. It was suspected to have been started by a controlled burn that went out of control due to strong winds.
