London Conference on Somalia calls on the world community to remain committed to its obligations to achieve development and progress in the African Horn country
London Conference on Somalia calls on the world community to remain committed to its obligations to achieve development and progress in the African Horn country, confirming that the future of Somalia will be determined by Somalis themselves and that the Somali leadership should be responsible in front of its people. In a final communiqué, the one-day conference to which Prince Saud Al-Faisal, the Foreign Minister, led his country's delegation, underscored the importance of achieving political stability in Somalia. The statement said the participants of 50 countries and regional and international organizations agreed not to extend the mandate of the current transitional government in Mogadishu which expires in August 2012 to pave the way for the formation of a full-fledged government. The communiqué called for encouraging dialogue among Somali factions and rivals, denouncing terrorism and extremism by Somalis or foreigners. The participants vowed to provide support for the African peace-keeping force in Somalia, to support the efforts aiming at ending piracy and considered terrorism as a grave threat for the security and unity of the Somalian territories.
