A commuter train barreled into the end of a line of trains at an Argentine station early Wednesday, Reuters quoted Argentina's Transportation Secretary as saying. "There are people still trapped, people alive, and there may have been fatalities. We do not know if there are dead people," J.P. Schiavi told reporters. The train hit the barrier at the end of Buenos Aires' Once station platform at roughly 20 kilometers per hour (kph), and crunched the cars behind it, Schiavi said. One of the cars penetrated nearly six meters into the next. The first car suffered the worst damage. Survivors told TeleNoticias that windows exploded, and the tops of train cars separated from the floors. Many passengers were thrown into one another and onto the floor by the force of the impact. The survivors said that people were injured in a mass of metal and glass. Helicopters and ambulances were called to the scene, taking the seriously injured to nearby hospitals.
