Qa'dah 06, 1431 H/Oct 14, 2010, SPA -- At least 21 people were killed in a road crash in India's central state of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, dpa cited a news report as saying. The accident occurred in the western Barwani district when a vehicle collided head on with a truck transporting oil, the PTI news agency reported quoting police sources. The victims included five women and two children. Four people who were injured were admitted at a local hospital. The police said the victims were all passengers of the vehicle and were returning after offering prayers at a Hindu shrine. Government data shows approximately 120,000 people are killed in road crashes each year. Police blame reckless driving, poorly maintained vehicles and bad roads for a majority of the accidents.
