The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has urged Parliaments in OIC countries to assume their responsibilities and find appropriate solutions to the new challenges facing the Muslim world. "This should include entrenching good governance, rule of law, fight against corruption and improvement in the living conditions of Muslim peoples in demonstration of the vision and objectives of the Ten-Year Programme of Action adopted by the Third Extraordinary Islamic Summit held in Makkah Al Mukarramah in December 2005," he said in a speech held recently at the 7th session of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States Conference held in Palembang, the Republic of Indonesia. The speech of Ihsanoglu was read at the conference Abdullah Abdur Rahman Alim, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, according to a press release of OIC. The Secretary General urged the OIC Member States' parliaments to strengthen communication, cooperation, and coordination with parliamentary, governmental and non-governmental organization in OIC Member States with a view to achieving common objectives and taking real initiatives to enable them make progress in the economic, political and cultural spheres.
