The Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has condemned the criminal assassination of the Iraqi Member of Parliament and Head of the Iraqi Accordance Front, Harith Al Obeidi, after he performed Friday prayer in Al-Shuf Mosque in West Baghdad. As he offers his condolences to the family of the deceased and to the entire Iraqi people, the Secretary-General deplores this ugly and cowardly terrorist act which aims at sowing the seeds of sectarian strife and undermining national unity in Iraq. The Secretary General appeals to all Iraqi parties to continue to implement the provisions of the Makkah Al Mukarramah Document of October 20, 2006, which calls for shunning sectarian strife, condemns terrorism and urges for establishing security, stability, coexistence and development for the benefit of the Iraqi people as a whole, according to a press release issued here yesterday.
