Finns headed to the polls on Sunday to vote for a new president in a runoff battle between former finance minister Sauli Niinisto of the conservative National Coalition Party and Pekka Haavisto of the Greens. Niinisto scored 37 per cent in the first round of voting two weeks ago, while Haavisto won 18.8 per cent, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA". About 4.4 million voters are eligible to vote for a successor to Tarja Halonen, who holds a largely ceremonial post. The Justice Ministry's election unit said about a third of the voters had cast their ballots in advance voting.
