Virginia Tech university was in lockdownThursday after a police officer was shot in a parking lot on campus, the university said, according to dpa. There was also a "potential" second victim in the parking lot of the university's basketball stadium, Virginia Tech said on its Twitter feed. The university issued a description of white male suspect and urged students and faculty to shelter in place. The university of more than 30,000 students in Blacksburg, Virginia was the site of the worst campus shooting in US history, when a student killed 32 others and wounded 25 before committing suicide in 2007.
