A Virginia Polytechnic Institute classroom building where 30 people were killed in the worst mass shooting in US history will gradually reopen later this month, university officials said Tuesday, according to dpa. Engineering offices and laboratories in Norris Hall will begin to reopen on June 18. The building has been vacant since April 16, when 23-year-old Virginia Tech student Cho Seung-Hui went on a shooting rampage killing 30 students and faculty members in Norris Hall classrooms before committing suicide. He had earlier killed two students in a dormitory. No general assignment classrooms will be located in Norris Hall because of the trauma caused by the tragedy, the university said. The engineering faculty determined that the building was crucial to their work and that its laboratories could not be easily moved. "After considering all points of view that were offered, I determined the best course of action to enable the College of Engineering to continue its healing was to move forward with phased re-use of the building," university president Charles Steger said in a statement. Accommodations will be made on a case-by-case basis for those who feel uncomfortable entering the building.
