AlHijjah 29, 1432, Nov 25, 2011, SPA -- The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has welcomed with deep satisfaction the signing on Thursday 23 November 2011 in Riyadh of the Gulf Cooperation Council's Initiative to end the crisis in Yemen by President Ali Abdullah Saleh and Yemen's opposition, as OIC's website reported. Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has called upon all political parties in Yemen to implement the agreement and to honor their commitments in order to facilitate peaceful transition of power in Yemen for the country's security and stability and the prosperity of its people. The OIC Secretary General has commended the pivotal role played by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, in bringing to a successful conclusion the power handover agreement on Yemen. The Secretary General has recalled in this regard the continuous efforts that the OIC has been putting in since the outbreak of the Yemen crisis in order to reach a peaceful solution. He has also recalled the support that the GCC has shown from the beginning of the crisis as well as the consultation and coordination between the OIC and the GCC for a peaceful solution to the crisis in Yemen.
