AlHijjah 25, 1432, Nov 21, 2011, SPA -- The U.S. ambassador to Syria Robert Ford will not return to Damascus this week, as previously planned, but he is expected to go there by the end of the year, the State Department said Monday. Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters that several factors contributed to the decision for Ford not to return this week, including events in Syria; the decision of other countries to bring their ambassadors home; and the question of whether Ford could be effective and travel within Syria upon his return.
