AlHijjah 7, 1432, Nov 3, 2011, SPAThe US Agency for International Development (USAID) celebrated its 50th anniversary Thursday in a ceremony in Washington, dpa reported. The agency emerged from a 1961 reform of US foreign aid measures that clearly separated military aid from civilian programmes. Vice President Joe Biden and USAID cheif Raj Shah spoke at the event Thursday, along with Caroline Kennedy, daughter of presidentJohn F Kennedy, under whom the agency was founded. "We obviously celebrate USAID's success and look forward to many more years of supporting global economic growth, health, democracy, conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance," State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said. -- SPA
