AlHijjah 11, 1432, Nov 7, 2011, SPA -- A powerful earthquake Monday jolted Pakistan. Neither deaths nor property damage resulted, dpa quoted local media as saying. The tremor measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale emanated from the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan. Shock waves were felt nationwide and in the Kashmir region, Dunya television reported. Pakistan sits atop an active seismic zone where aftershocks can be common. At midday Monday, a 1.6-rated tremor was felt in the country's northern region, the country's meteorological department said. A powerful earthquake in 2005 rated 7 on the Richter scale killed 74,000 people in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, a territory to which India also lays claim.
