AlQa'dah 23, 1432, Oct 21, 2011, SPA -- The European Union on Friday said it had postponed a planned summit with China because it expected its leaders to be preoccupied with ongoing talks over the eurozone debt crisis, the Chinese government reported, according to dpa. European Council President Herman Van Rompuy informed Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao by telephone that the European Union wanted to postpone the summit, which had been scheduled for Tuesday in Tianjin, China, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said. The ministry quoted Van Rompuy as telling Wen that he and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso would be busy at a series of meetings on the eurozone debt crisis over the next few days. Van Rompuy apologized to the Chinese government for the postponement and the two sides agreed to consult over a new date, the ministry said. In Brussels, Van Rompuy and Barroso expressed in a statement "their readiness to find a new date soon."
