AlQa'dah 21, 1432, Oct 19, 2011, SPA - Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Tuesday termed the US $12 billion Diamir-Bhasha Dam project a “life-line” for the national economy, that would help meet country's future agricultural and power requirements. In an address at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the world's highest concrete dam on River Indus, Gilani said the project will generate 19 billion units of electricity annually and enhance life of Tarbela Dam by over 35 years. He said the gigantic project will generate 4,500 Mega-Watts of electricity and store over 8 Million Acre Feet of water to meet country's growing power and irrigation needs, and that it was the outcome of consensus amongst all stakeholders, according to a report of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).
