Pakistan has approved expansion of its mega electricity producing and irrigation water reservoir, Tarbela Dam, at an estimated cost of $500 million, said an official statement. The Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) accorded the approval to the expansion as part of the government s policy to generate cheaper electricity. This will be fourth extension of Tarbela hydropower project which will be completed within shortest possible time. The PPIB approved that feasibility study of the 960 MW expansion project will be carried out by M/S Tarbela Hydro Limited and Associates.
