Two agreements were signed in Amman Monday under which the German government extended 99 million euros in economic aid to Jordan, dpa quoted an official statement as saying. The accords were signed by Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Jaafer Hassan and the German ambassador in Amman Ralf Tarraf in the presence of representatives for the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Reconstruction Bank (KfW). Under the agreements, the German government will extend a soft loan of 90 million euros and a donation of 9 million euros for financing Jordanian development projects covering the water, energy and education sectors, Hassan said. He pointed out that Jordan and Germany would shortly sign an agreement for swapping 27 million euros of Jordanian debt with development projects in Jordan. Germany, one of Jordan's main financial supporters, extended economic aid to the Hashemite Kingdom amounting to 320 million dollars between 2002 and 2010, excluding German aid through the European Union, the Jordanian minister said.
