Japanese shares dropped Wednesday following overnight losses on Wall Street as investor sentiment was hurt by renewed concerns about the global economy. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 50.17 points, or 0.55 per cent, to 9,057.26 while the broader-based Topix index was down 2.41 points, or 0.31 per cent, at 776.65. The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 76.97 points, or 0.67 per cent as European leaders discussed proposed taxes on financial transactions, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA".
