Japanese shares jumped 1.5 per cent Wednesday following overnight gains on US and European markets, and after figures for industrial production in May showed a rebound from the March earthquake and tsunami. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 148.28 points, or 1.54 per cent, to close at 9,797.26. The broader-based Topix index was up 13.77 points, or 1.66 per cent, at 844.11. Tokyo stocks opened higher after the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.21 per cent Tuesday on hope for a resolution to Greece's debt woes, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA".
