Czech police say they have smashed an international ring suspected of arranging fake marriages for Nigerians seeking residency permit in the Czech Republic, according to AP. A police spokesman Pavel Hantak says four Nigerians and seven Czech nationals were arrested. Hantak said in a statement Thursday that the Nigerians seeking residency permits for the Czech Republic had to pay up to ?12,000 ($17,000) to the group for setting up a bogus marriage with a Czech citizen. The Czechs agreeing to marry a foreigner would get 50,000 koruna ($2,900). Police say at least 27 such marriages have been arranged. They say the group operated in the Czech Republic, Nigeria and in several other unspecified European countries.
