Sudan Government and a Darfur leading rebel faction today signed a mainly Qatari-brokered peace agreement with the attendance of host Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, Sudan's President Omer Al-Basheer, and senior representatives from the United Nations, Asia and Africa. The Darfur Peace Accord between Sudan Government and the Movement for Liberation and Equity was signed by Dr. Ghazi Salahuddin Al-Atabani, Advisor to the Sudanese President in his capacity as representative of the Government of The Sudan, and Dr. Al-Tijani Sisi Mohammed Atim, Chairman of the rebel movement, respectively. Also attending the function were presidents of Chad, Eritrea, Burkina Faso, Qatar's Prime and Foreign Minister, Prime Minister of Central Africa, Ethiopia's Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister, Arab League Secretary General, Islamic Cooperation Organization Secretary General, African Union representative and the United Nations representative.
