Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev called here today to set up an Islamic group to protect Islamic nations of food shortage and to improve food security in the Arab world, dpa reported. The Kazakh leader said his country - the world leading flour exporter - should host an Islamic grouping similar to United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Nazarbayiev, who was addressing the Islamic Economic Forum, added that to boost food security "I propose to set up a system for food aides in the context of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), supported by a regional fund made up of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and food group consisted of OIC member states. Kazakhstan is the current rotational presiding nation over the OIC, which concludes 57 member states. -- SPA
