The General Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in Syria, causing more civilian and military casualties and wounding scores of others while large numbers of Syrians have fled to neighboring countries in search of security and safety. The General Secretariat emphasized that continued violence and the use of force will give rise to security chaos and the situation might get out of control, which would expose the security and stability of the country to even greater risks. While reiterating its call upon the Syrian security forces to show restraint and refrain from targeting innocent civilians, the General Secretariat stressed the need to remain focused on the best interests and stability of the country by engaging in dialogue and reforms as promised by the Syrian leadership in a bid to ensure security and stability and meet the aspirations of the Syrian people for democracy and good governance in line with the stipulations of the OIC Ten-Year Program of Action (TYPOA).
