The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) called on all Iraqis to seize the opportunity of the holy month of Ramadan to put an end to the escalating sectarian violence that threatens Iraq's unity, stability and future. Following is the statement issued by the Organization today: On the advent of the Holy month of Ramadan, an opportune moment for sober reflection, peace and reconciliation, the General Secretariat of the OIC is launching a strong appeal to all Iraqis to seize the opportunity and end the mounting level of sectarian violence threatening the unity, stability and future of the country. The intolerable acts of destruction and terrorism which continue to claim innocent lives are causing enormous concern to the OIC and the Muslim Ummah. Time has come for all people of good will, no matter how aggrieved, to cease immediately all forms of violence undermining the fabric, cohesion and sovereignty of the Iraqi nation. The position of the noble religion of Islam on the sanctity of human life is well known. Spilling human blood is detestable in the Sight of Allah, The Almighty. Terrorism is a heretical deviation in Islam while killing one's own countrymen is an inexcusable crime condemned by all religions. What is currently happening in Iraq is indeed tearing our hearts. A country of rich cultural, human and natural resources is sliding day-by-day into chaos and bloodshed. --More 2109 Local Time 1809 GMT
