A policewoman shot and fatally wounded a woman who attacked her with a knife in a German job centre on Thursday, police said, according to dpa. The policewoman, 28, and her assailant were taken to hospital, where the 40-year-old woman died of her wounds an hour later. The job centre, in Germany's western Rhein-Main region, assists homeless people and those with addiction problems. The woman had an altercation with the jobcentre staff, who alerted the police. When they arrived and asked to see her identification papers, she pulled out a knife and attacked a male officer, 30, and the policewoman. An investigation is underway. German police routinely carry guns.
