The Lower House of Parliament of Jordan on Wednesday hailed Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member nations for backing Jordan's bid to join the regional grouping. The House said in a statement that yesterday's decision by leader of the six GCC member states was a boost to joint Arab action and would cement Jordan's historic ties with the Gulf Arab states, "which it sees as a strategic depth, not only for Jordan but the entire Arab nation." Jordan and Gulf Arab states had many things in common, said the statement, calling the leaders' decision a watershed in strengthening the Arab world's ability to face current challenges. It said Jordan's accession would streamline its relations with the GCC, describing the move a milestone toward Arab economic integration particularly "in these difficult regional circumstances." The House said it wholly blessed "this great decision" and underscored its full support of "this achievement", urging the government to move promptly to finalise the procedures for entry.
