Akhir 24, 1432, March 29, 2011, SPA -- Japanese stocks dropped Tuesday as investors were concerned about a report that plutonium was found on the compound of a damaged nuclear power plant in north-eastern Japan. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 19.45 points, or 0.21 per cent, to close at 9,459.08 while the broader Topix index was down 7.64 points, or 0.89 per cent, at 850.21. In the afternoon, Tokyo stocks recovered part of the earlier losses after some Asian stocks rose. South Korea's KOSPI index was up 0.76 per cent as of 3:01 pm (0601 GMT). The operator of the plant, Tokyo Electric Power Co, said plutonium was detected overnight in soil at five locations at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, which was damaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. The company said the radioactive levels did not pose a human health risk, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA".
