Akhir 23, 1432, March 28, 2011, SPA -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck Monday in the same region of Japan that was hit this month by the strongest tremor ever recorded in the quake-prone country, the Meteorological Agency said. A tsunami warning was issued for the Pacific coast of the north-eastern prefecture of Miyagi, one of the areas hardest hit by the March 11 disaster, but the agency later lifted it after no tsunami was observed. There were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage although the quake was shallow, striking at a depth of nearly 6 kilometres. The epicentre of the 7:24 am (1024 GMT Sunday) quake was 80 kilometres east of Miyagi's Oshika Peninsula, the agency said. Monday's aftershock did not cause any further damage to the plant, the Jiji press agency reported, citing the plant's operator, the Tokyo Electric Power Co. The official death toll from the March 11 magnitude-9 quake and tsunami stood at 10,872 Monday, with 16,244 people listed as missing, Japan's National Police Agency said.
