Akhir 13, 1432 H/March 18, 2011, SPA -- The White House on Thursday said that they are aware of the “urgency” of the crisis in Libya, and that they are moving with speed, but with caution. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that the United States is “very concerned about the situation in Libya” and are “acting with a great sense of urgency.” As a part of this urgency, the U.S. has taken “unprecedented” action with a profound “size…sweep…scope,” he said. But, the efforts against Libya, especially those related to further action against the regime of Moammer Qaddafi, including a no-fly zone, must be done with international support. The Arab League recently backed the idea of the no-fly zone, which Carney touted, saying that “the actions taken by the Arab League…are very significant” especially because it sends the signal that “this is not a western action [or] an American action,” but an international action. He also touted the “remarkable cooperation” between the U.S. and its allies. This comes as the United States is working with the United Nations on continuing actions against the Qaddafi regime. While the U.S. is still “actively considering” the no-fly zone,” Carney stressed that they are also considering other options “that go beyond a no-fly zone.”
