Awwal 10, 1432, Feb 13, 2011, SPA-- A thief tried to steal an entire ATM machine by ramming a backhoe into a strip mall Sunday morning, Montreal police said, according to UPI. The attempted heist of the National Bank ATM occurred around 5:45 a.m. in the Pointe aux Trembles section, Constable Olivier Lapointe told The Montreal Gazette. "He smashed the windows of the mall, but the vehicle was too big and it got stuck inside, damaging the roof and setting off the sprinkler system and causing flooding," he said. Nothing appeared to be stolen, but property damage will run into the thousands of dollars, Lapointe said. Police are reviewing footage from security cameras to try to spot the perpetrator, who was seen fleeing the scene in a blue truck.
