Jordan has invested an amount of $1.5 billion in the pharmaceutical industry, which is built over half a century. The Kingdom of Jordan has become the only country in its geographical location, which exports three-folds of its production of medicines in comparison with its pharmaceuticals' imports. Jordan is counting greatly on the national pharmaceutical industry that returns high rates of exports and brings in foreign currencies, consequently helping the country's foreign exchange reserves and assisting the health sector - the recipient of premier importance by the Jordanian government with the participation of the private sector - one of the operating sectors of the labor force. A delegate in-charge of the Pharmaceutical Industry and therapeutic medical supplies in Jordan's Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mohammad Ali Shaheen said the pharmaceutical sector in Jordan is one of the oldest industries in the Arab world as it was founded in 1962. Its exports are currently sent to 60 countries around the world.
