Japanese stocks inched lower Wednesday as losses in some other Asian markets such as Shanghai and Taipei hurt investor sentiment, according to a report of DPA. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 17.33 points, or 0.17 per cent, to close at 10,380.77 while the broader Topix index was down 0.11 points, or 0.01 per cent, at 911.69. Tokyo stocks opened lower as investors sold shares to lock in immediate profits after the previous day's surge. On Tuesday, the first trading day of the new year, shares had risen 1.65 per cent after an overnight rally on Wall Street. On currency markets at 3 pm (0600 GMT), the dollar traded at 82.03-06 yen, down from Tuesday's 5 pm quote of 82.27-28 yen. The euro traded at 1.3270-3273 dollars, down from 1.3353-3354 dollars Tuesday, and at 108.85-88 yen, down from 109.86-90 yen.
