At least six workers at an insecticide storehouse were killed Friday as an explosion followed by fire ravaged the building in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, officials said. "We have retrieved six charred bodies from inside the ruins and sent 10 others with serious burn wounds to hospitals," Abu Nayeem Mohammad Shahidullah, director general of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, told reporters on the scene. The fire, which broke out at about 9:35 pm (1535 GMT), devastated the tin-shed storehouse in the city's Namapara neighbourhood, where coils and aerosols of the Good Knight brand that were past their expiration dates had been piled up, firefighters said. The fire flared up as more than a dozen workers were destroying the coils and sprays, said nearby residents who heard a loud explosion before the flames spread. It took firefighters more than an hour to extinguish the blaze.
