An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale shook Palu, capital of Central Sulawesi province, on Saturday evening. The epicenter of the quake which struck at 06.23 p.m. was in the sea 23 km southeast of Palu at a depth of 11 km, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said in its official website on Saturday. The quake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, it said. A number of local residents said they were shocked by the temblor which lasted for less than two seconds. The city was last hit by an earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale on December 10, 2010, according to ANTARA.
