A number of local and international intellectuals, thinkers and Islamic university professors took part in the event. Upon arrival at the venue, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal was received by Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulmohsen Al-Turki, Secretary General of MWL, and a number of officials. In a key address, Al-Turki explained that the west possesses giant and numerous media channels, experience in study of societies, skillfulness of production and performance, state-of-the-art media equipment, putting the third world in a critical media situation as just a negative rather than positive actor in the process of creating world public opinion. He called on Muslim world not to sit idle against such challenges. For his part, Dr. Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdulilah Al-Sheikh, the Kingdom's Mufti, Chairman of the Senior Ulema Commission, Religious Research Administration and Ifta and Chairman of the MWL's Constitutional Council, explained that the western media has waged war against Islam. Had our Ulema given the chance over advanced and worldwide media, they would be capable to conquer them and correct the portrait of our religion. Given the podium, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal welcomed the conferees and organizers. He said the media has become among the most influential weapons in today's life. He called on Islamic media to show more coordination and cooperation among each other.
