Qa'dah 20, 1431 H/Oct 28, 2010, SPA -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale hit today the governorates of Qena and Sohag in Upper Egypt without causing any casualties. Dr. Salah Mohammed Mahmoud, Head of the Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, said in a statement today that the epicenter of the quake lies about 78 km west from the town of Esna, at a depth of 10 kilometers from the surface of the earth. He stressed that the Institute didn't receive any news of losses in enterprises or lives as a result of the tremor.
