Qa'dah 8, 1431 H/Oct 16, 2010, SPA -- The Swedish military says one of its soldiers was killed and two more injured when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in northern Afghanistan. Army spokesman Torbjorn Gustafsson said Saturday that the troops' armored vehicle was hit by an IED after it was called to support troops who had come under fire about 40 kilometers west of Mazar-e-Sharif, according to AP. Gustafsson said that the two other troops' injuries are not life threatening. President Barack Obama recently thanked Sweden's Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt in a phone call for Sweden's support in Afghanistan as part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force. Sweden currently has about 530 troops in Afghanistan. This latest death is its fifth casualty.
