Qa'dah 03, 1431, Oct 11, SPA -- Police say a bus fell into a river while trying to overtake a car Monday in northern India, killing at least 18 people. Police officer Amitabh Yash says nearly a dozen people were injured in the accident in Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh state. Bulandshahr is about 250 miles (400 kilometers) southwest of the state capital of Lucknow. Yash says the victims were on their way to cast votes in a village council election. He says it appears the driver tried to overtake a car from the wrong side, losing control and driving the bus into the Neel river, according to a report of the Associated Press.
