German exports slipped 0.4 per cent in August, according data released Friday, amid signs that global trade is slowing, according to dpa. The month-on-month fall in exports from Europe's biggest economy followed a 1.6-per-cent drop in July. Imports, however, rose a modest 0.9 per cent in August, the statistics office said. Analysts had forecast that the figures would show exports edging down 0.3 per cent in August. Imports had been tipped to rise 0.4 per cent after falling 2.2 per cent in July. Year-on-year exports surged 26.8 per cent in August, the statistics office said. Imports were 29.2 per cent higher on the year.
