Police in Kabardino-Balkaria have launched an investigation into the assassination attempt on the life of police Colonel Akhmed Khamurzov, director of the Internal Security Department of the republic's Interior Ministry. On Monday, an unidentified man fired several shots with a pistol at Khamurzov who was getting into his car," an official at the regional branch of the Investigations Committee under the Prosecutor General's Office (SKP) told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. The police officer was hospitalized with two gunshots wounds to the arm. The assassination attempt was carried out near the building of the republic's Interior Ministry. "His condition does not cause worry," the SKP official said. A criminal case was opened over "attempted murder of law-enforcement officer" and "illegal turnover of weapons."
