The total tonnage handled in all Saudi Ports during the first half of 2010 reached around 72.7 Million Tonnes, with an increase of 6.88% over the same period of the previous year ( Imports increased by 24.17%, Exports decreased 4.12% ). Jeddah Port, made the biggest increase with 25.17%, and took the biggest share of cargo (24.05 M) mostly containers, food, construction materials and general cargo. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam came second among the commercial ports in volume (11.57 M) with (27.47%) growth, according to a latest press release of Saudi Ports Authority. King Fahad Industrial Ports in Jubail and Yanbu handled 21.6 M and 11.8 M respectively, mostly Petrochemicals and refined products. Containers increased in units (TEU) by 20.97%. By the end of June, 2010 Saudi Ports handled around 2.56 M TEU. Transshipment continued its growth with 823,156 TEU (37.86% increase). Jeddah is the main transshipment port.
