Hijjah 13, 1431, Nov 19, 2010, SPA -- The total tonnage handled in all Saudi Ports during the first 9 months of 2010 reached around 113.17 Million Tonnes(MT), with a hike of 7.59% over the same period of the previous year ( Imports increased by 17.78%, Exports increased 0.54% ). Jeddah Port, registered the biggest increase with 22.06%, and took the biggest share of cargo (36.79 MT) mostly containers, foodstuffs, construction materials and the general cargo. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam came second among the commercial ports in volume (17.70 MT) with (24.40%) growth. King Fahad Industrial Ports in Jubail and Yanbu handled 33.5 MT and 19.4 MT respectively, mostly Petrochemicals and refined products. Containers increased in units (TEU) by 21.56%. By the end of September, 2010 Saudi Ports handled around 3.97 M TEU. Transshipment continued its growth with 1,272,223 TEU (45.69% increase). Jeddah is the main transshipment port.
