Prince Salman ibn Abdulaziz, the Governor of Riyadh province, has expressed his appreciation for the support given by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah ibn Abdul-Aziz, the Crown Prince and the Second Deputy Premier to the ongoing efforts for preservation and development of the national heritage. Prince Salman, who is the Chairman of High Commission for Dir'iya Development, said the approval of the UNESCO's international heritage committee for registration of al-Turaif quarter of historical Dir'iya on the list of the international heritage at its 34th session constitutes an international recognition with its great historical values. In a press statement Prince Salman said the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a country of a great civilization and historical components, adding that inserting Dir'iya in the list of the international heritage provides a clear evidence of its historical importance. He noted that Dir'iya was the capital of the first Saudi state and it was a cultural center in the Arabian peninsula.
